Southern Garden Girls is a practical gardening site built around one idea: the useful part of gardening is not pretending everything grows perfectly. It is paying attention to what happened, learning from it, and making the next season better.
I’m Candace, and this site started as a place to document what I was growing, what worked, what absolutely did not, and the garden notes I wanted to remember later.
Southern Garden Girls is centered on North Central Texas and USDA Zone 8b, with planting guidance built around local seasons, weather, soil, and realistic backyard conditions.
What you will find here
Southern Garden Girls focuses on vegetable gardening, seasonal planting, soil improvement, raised beds, composting, seed starting, indoor growing, pollinators, pest problems, and practical garden resources.
The monthly planting series is written for North Central Texas, and the rest of the site focuses on practical growing guidance that can be used in the garden now.
What this site is not
This is not a promise that one technique works in every garden. Soil, weather, variety, water, sun exposure, and even the exact week you plant can change the result. Research-based guidance gives us a starting point; the garden itself gives us the rest of the information.
Where to start
Other businesses by Candace
Gardening is one part of what I do. I also run two separate businesses that have nothing to do with telling you when to plant tomatoes—and I keep them separate for exactly that reason.
Interactive slime, markets & events
Triple Squish Co. is my colorful side: an interactive slime bar and creative products built around hands-on fun.
